The 1959 Topps 572 Card set measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/2". They have a round photograph on the front, with a solid-color background above and below, and a white border. A facsimile autograph is found across the photo.
Common cards 1 -110 are slightly harder to obtain than common cards 111-506, and therefore command about a 40% premium. Cards 116-146 contain ‘Rookie Prospects’ in alphabetical order.
Cards 316, 321, 322, 336 and 362 have variations with or without ‘trade’ or ‘optioned’ statement on them.
Cards 461-470 contain highlights which include, Aaron, Banks, Mantle, Mays, Musial, Snider, etc. The final series, 507-572 are harder to obtain, and therefore contain a premium.
Card 550 might be baseball’s most emotional card, presenting Roy Campanella in a wheelchair. The 3 time MVP was paralyzed in an auto accident before the ’58 season started. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Campanella
Cards 551 – 572 are Sporting News All Star Selections, giving collectors another chance to obtain Aaron, Banks, Mantle, Mays, Musial, Snider, etc.
The key rookie cards in this set are Felipe Alou (102), George ‘Sparky’ Anderson(358), Norm Cash(509), Bob Gibson (514), and Bill White (359).
